| Promises for Soldiers |
| by Cher Wandell |
| It`s easy for others to say, “Don`t be afraid, God will take care of you” when they aren`t the ones facing the battle. But fear can overtake our thoughts when we are in the middle of what seems to be a hopeless and helpless situation. God`s Word offers peace and comfort in times when we are in physical and emotional danger. Only knowing the Lord personally will His Word comfort us like a spiritual blanket. |
| There have been times that I have been in trying and unfair situations; but let me tell you this…if I didn`t have the Word of God as my shield and comfort I wouldn`t have been able to get through the situation. The Holy Spirit brought the Word of God to my remembrance and I was able to pull out of the thoughts of fear and doubt that tried to cause me to think I wouldn`t make it. |
| “But You, O LORD, are a shield about me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He heard me from His Holy hill.” (Psalm 3:3-4) |
| We must have the Word of God in us in order for the Lord to work through us. Comfort in the Word can`t come if you don`t know what God says about your situation. The more you know the Word of God, the more peace and comfort you will have. |
| There are many questions soldiers face when they are preparing for and facing war, and I would like to reassure you that God is right there with you watching over you. He promises to be with you and strengthen you for the job. He is your captain and is waiting to give you the right orders for your situation to get you through to the next step. |
| “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. |
| I will strengthen you and help you; |
| I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10) |
| Remember you are not alone, and there is nothing you have to face without God right beside you. |
| “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) |
| None of us knows what our future holds. But God does know what will happen, and He is in charge. If you are feeling anxious about your future, God wants you to put those feelings to rest and trust in Him. |
| “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends (passes) all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7) |
| Danger in wartime faces those in battle and those left at home. Situations seem to arise that normally wouldn`t happen, and quick decisions have to be made that lead to victory. God promises that He is our refuge and strength in the time of trouble. He will help us to make the right decisions and not focus on being afraid. When we act in fear, we don`t act in faith that God will deliver us out of trouble. Decisions made out of fear bring defeat and disaster, because God was not a part of the solution. No matter what situation you are facing right now, don`t let fear control your decision-making. Turn to the Lord and pray for the Holy Spirit to control your thoughts, plans and steps. |
| “God is our refuge and strength, |
| an ever-present help in trouble.” |
| (Psalm 46:1) |
| “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me and comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4) |
| “Because he loves Me, says the LORD, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name.” (Psalm 91:14) |
| The only hope we have when we are experiencing times of trouble, distress and uncertainty is to call on the name of the Lord. You can do this right now and ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you. Jesus said that when we call on Him, He hears us and will come and save us. But no one else can call on the name of the Lord for you. Salvation is personal and each person has to do it for him or herself. |
| “Whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death |
| to life.” (John 5:24) |
| If you have not made the decision to follow Jesus, do it now. Cross over from death into life and be sure about your eternity. We cannot be sure of tomorrow, today or even our next breath, but we can be sure of where we will spend eternity. When everything in life changes from moment to moment, it is a comfort to know that your eternity with God never changes and it is a promise that anyone can have. |
