| It is Well |
| by Cher Wandell |
|
| I can remember singing the song “It is well, with my soul” when growing up in my church. I didn't sing it because I understood the message, but sang because everyone else was singing. It wasn`t until I was an adult and my husband sang the song that I really understood what it meant. |
|
| A man who had lost his entire family in a shipwreck wrote the song. He was supposed to travel with his family, but was delayed and not able to go at the same time. On another voyage, he was shown exactly where the ship had gone down. At that time the Lord`s peace, comfort and saving grace rose up inside of him and gave him the song “It is Well with My Soul.” |
|
| Even though this man of God had just lost his family, he found that it was still well with his soul. His relationship with God was his comfort to go on and continue to proclaim the goodness of God. |
|
| No matter what you may be experiencing at the moment, Jesus promised that you would have peace if you call on Him. Peace is a gift from God that can only be found by going to the well where you will find Jesus. The Lord told us that if we would reach out to Him, He would come and meet us in our time of need. Go to the well right now, and you will find Jesus is already there waiting for you. |
|
| “If you ask anything in My name, |
| I will do it for you. If you love me, |
| keep my commandments. And I will pray the |
| Father, and He will give you another Comforter, |
| that He may live with you forever. |
|
| Even the Holy Spirit of Truth; |
| whom the world cannot receive, |
| because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: |
| but you know Him; for He dwells in you, |
| and will be in you. I will not leave you |
| comfortless (bereft): I will come to you. |
| Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: |
| not as the world gives, I give unto you. |
| Let not your heart be troubled, |
| neither let it be afraid…” |
| (John 14:14-17, 27) |
